I am Nicolas Ferranti, a PhD Candidate and Research Associate at WU Vienna working on data quality, knowledge representation, semantic technologies, and AI-enhanced data pipelines. I enjoy building systems that make complex data more useful, reliable, and ready for real-world use.
My profile brings together software engineering practice and applied research in data-intensive systems. I started by building microservice-based architectures and working on data integration problems, where I learned to design and deliver reliable systems in real-world environments. This evolved into applying semantic technologies and AI methods to extract meaningful information from complex data, including work on ontology alignment, knowledge graph modeling, and data quality in graph-based and NoSQL systems. Alongside this, I worked as a full-stack developer and Scrum Master in industry, contributing to production systems for public administration and gaining experience in delivering robust software within agile teams. Today, I combine these experiences to design and build intelligent data systems, integrating knowledge graphs, validation techniques (SHACL/SPARQL), and LLM approaches such as RAG and MCP to create solutions that are both theoretically grounded and practically useful.

Researching methods to improve knowledge graph data quality using Python, SPARQL, SHACL, and NoSQL technologies. Teaching BSc and MSc courses in Python, data structures, and data analysis. Developing experimental applications that integrate large language models into data pipelines and user interaction. Supervising students in semantic web and AI-related projects.
Conducting doctoral research on data quality and knowledge representation, with a publication profile focused on Wikidata constraints, semantic validation, and knowledge graph repair methods.
Developed and maintained web applications supporting the administration of public organizations in Brazil, using JavaScript, PHP, PostgreSQL, CSS, and HTML. Also served as Scrum Master, combining technical delivery with process coordination.
Led a team of four developers, worked on code quality and project documentation, developed microservices for heterogeneous data integration, and contributed to NoSQL data modeling and web development.
Contributed to Portuguese natural language text processing, ontology-based semantic annotation, testing, documentation, software implementation, and IT support — building an early foundation across both research and practice.
